About Me

J'Nefer Higgins, M.Ed.

Integrative School Psychologist & Psychoeducational Consultant

I'm J'Nefer (pronounced "Jenifer") Higgins, M.Ed., a school psychologist and psychoeducational consultant who believes that every child deserves to be understood, supported, and seen. My work sits at the intersection of child development, culture, and family wellness. I help children and parents make sense of behavior, learning needs, identity development, and the everyday challenges that come with growing up.

My path has taken me from Howard University, where I earned my M.Ed., to UMBC, where I studied Applied Developmental Psychology, to years of hands-on psychoeducational work. All of it taught me the same lesson: children don't need perfection—they need understanding, structure, cultural grounding, and adults who are willing to grow alongside them.

Whether I'm completing an assessment, coaching a parent, or guiding a school team, my goal is always the same: clarity, compassion, and practical steps that help young people thrive. I specialize in behavior, learning challenges, self-esteem, attention & executive dysfunction, and identity development issues that concern Black children. But I also support families from any background who want clear, realistic guidance grounded in truth and balance.

If you'd like to see whether I'm the right fit for your child or family, feel free to reach out through this site or email me.

What "Integrative School Psychologist" Means

When I call myself an Integrative School Psychologist, it simply means that I bring together everything a Black child or family may need—psychological education, cultural competence, and practical support—into one unified approach. Children don't develop in pieces, so I don't work in pieces.

As a school psychologist, my work centers on understanding how a child learns, thinks, behaves, and connects with the world around them. As a psychoeducational consultant, I bring that same expertise into homes and community settings, working directly with parents, organizations, and programs to clarify concerns, create support plans, and guide decisions about learning and behavior.

Together, these roles shape my "integrative" approach, giving families practical answers, straightforward guidance, and a clear path forward. My goal is always to make this process easier, not more complicated, and to help children grow in environments that understand who they are and what they need.
